Highlights are located at the bottom of Page- 2 . The victory pushes the Wonders to an overall 7- 3 record for the year going into their final MECKA hoorah with Hopewell next Friday night in Huntersville. The victory Friday night over the Lions was much harder than most people felt it would be, much to the credit of the Wonders personally, who did themselves no favors by allowing the turnover and penalty jinx to creep back into their game once again, and it almost cost them a game that in reality should have never been in question. It was in question however up until 4. Wonders turned the ball over again deep in their own territory on their way to a possible clinching touchdown with 1: 0. Luckily the Wonder defense saved the game when they got pressure on the Lion QB after a high snap which sailed out of the endzone creating a safety and two clinching points for the Wonders. The Wonders started the game by executing a very crisp drive that led to the first Wonder points of the contest, putting the Wonders up 7- 0 early in the first quarter, but that's about where the crispness for the Wonder offense ended. Penalties and turnovers cost the Wonders at critical moments during drives that could have possibly led to more Wonder points and less concern for the Wonder faithful in attendance at the game. The West Charlotte Lions were also getting . In the 4th quarter that animation peaked as one West Charlotte coach was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct which assessed the team fifteen yards by the lack of his own self control. Chattyness after plays between some of the Lion players and Wonder players created more tension as the game wore down. That tension reached it's crescendo during the after game handshakes on the Wonder side of the field. Words were exchanged by unknown parties which culminated into a pushing and shoving match that made it's way almost into the Wonder endzone where coaches were trying frantically to obtain control and get their players away from the fray. Both teams finally separated and control was obtained. What led to the fray is anyone's guess, but it was a ticking time bomb just waiting to explode at the right moment through much of the second half. Coach Newsome expressed his displeasure with the event to his players, and drove the point home that he would not allow any team of his to engage in that sort of lapse of self control. I know this type of thing can happen in any athletic competition where emotions are high, but it was a shame for such a hard fought contest by both teams to end in that fashion. Aside from the post game drama, the Wonders finish their series with the Lions at a perfect 4- 0 since 2. West Charlotte to 5- 1 since 1. Next week the Wonders conclude MECKA 4. A conference play at Hopewell, where they will take on the 1- 9 Titans in a contest that on paper should be a comfortable win for the Wonders however, if the Wonders can't get a grip on the penalty and turnover issues then nothing is going to be comfortable the rest of the way, and the playoffs are just two weeks away. It's odd that with every final MECKA game at the end of the contest I begin to breathe a sigh of relief. I will have more thoughts and reflections about our four year stint in the MECKA 4. A after the Hopewell game, but for now I will just say that the South Piedmont Conference can't look any sweeter than it does right now. Back to some natural rivalries and less MECKA drama will be a welcome change after the last four years. I hope to see all of Wonder Nation out in force to help send the Wonders out of the MECKA 4. A with a bang in Huntersville Friday night. Brown Wonders Football . Brown Wonders and the tie that binds in the city of Kannapolis . Brown High School in Kannapolis North Carolina. With that change much of what made us so tough and so gritty is no longer a part of daily life. Friday Nights in K- Town is committed to preserving the history of our stoic past, and celebrating the achievements that put our football program at the forefront of high school football programs in the state. The smoke stacks are gone, and the skyline is quite different today than what we once knew and loved so many years ago, but the echoes of a long lost Wonder generation still reverberates within the confines of Memorial Stadium today. All one has to do is step back and look at the rows of old mill houses that still surround the playing field, and all of those old ghosts echo the same sentiment. Get back to your roots!! Brown High School first opened its doors in 1. Kannapolis was a town full of hard nosed blue collar textile workers whose . Everything that is Kannapolis was centered around the high school football team. That team gave thousands of weary mill workers something to rally around every Friday night. Just about every employee of Cannon Mills had someone who was either directly or indirectly affiliated with the school in some shape or form, Whether it be the football team, the Big Green Machine, Cheerleaders, or any other school sponsored organization. From it's early roots as Central and J. W. Cannon High Schools, till A. L Brown came into existence the Football program has experienced its share of success, and failure. From the lean days of the middle sixties and middle seventies to the string of winning seasons from 1. Kannapolis football program has experienced it all. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, and everything in between. So where do you begin to tell the story of Wonder football without leaving out some pivotal moment in history? For the sake of our thirty six consecutive winning seasons I will begin after the 4- 6 season of 1. Robert . A time when there was no shortage of spirit, but limited success. The systematic transformation of A. L. Brown High School into a football superpower began. Wingate Andrews in High Point would come to Kannapolis to try and breathe some life into a Wonder football program that was fading on life support in 1. Coach Boswell was given carte blanche at the authority of Dr Bradshaw to bring the Wonder football program up to speed in areas where it was lacking. The first thing to go was the out of date equipment, and overall lackluster appearance of the facilities including Memorial Stadium. The Bullock Gym was repainted along with the stadium brickwork and press box. Extensive weight training equipment was purchased to replace the old universal machine which ushered in a new realm of strength and conditioning. Next would be the outdated look of the Wonders themselves. New uniforms were purchased with specific emphasis placed on the programs most identifying mark. Coach Boswell opted for a logo which carried far more impact. The old Kentucky University big block . Big was the mantra for coach Boswell and his fledgling program, but there was nothing . Meeting with some backlash from the public, but in keeping with coach Boswell's . Brown High would become forever known as simply The Wonders. Of course as everybody knows, Rome wasn't built in a day, and in keeping with that philosophy, coach Boswell, though poised and focused for victory would have to struggle through two losing seasons in the first two years of his tenure in 1. In 1. 97. 7 the Wonders would find themselves in very unfamiliar surroundings as the WNCHSAA ceased operations, and the Wonders would become part of the NCHSAA. One of the biggest changes would be the Wonders move out of the South Piedmont 3. A Conference and into the Central Piedmont 4. A Conference. This set Wonder fans back a few steps, as the Wonders would begin playing seven new opponents from the greater Winston Salem and Greensboro areas. Opponents the Wonders new very little about. Wonders as the new conference did not welcome the Green and White very hospitably in their first season. Boswell's first year in the CPC 4. A would end in a 3- 7 mark making many Wonder fans feel as if the program had jumped from the frying pan into the fire, but the winds of change were blowing in, and the Wonders would soon begin to reap the benefits of their patience. In 1. 97. 8, the Wonders would record their first winning season under their new mentor, and there would be no looking back for a program that had not seen much positive since 1. The Wonders would begin a then streak of thirty six consecutive winning seasons that has not fallen below 5. Massey would assume the controls of power in Kannapolis from 2. The next day, Marie steers Benjamin to the jewelry store where Mrs Thomas is waiting. Mrs Thomas, pretending not to see him, complains (in a loud voice) how cheap her husband is. Benjamin becomes so angry he buys Marie lots of expensive items for about $5. That night, Alex crashes the birthday party Marie has arranged for Benjamin. He tells Jim that he wants $1.
